Coffeyville was founded in 1869 by Colonel James A. Coffey and is located near the Verdigris River in southeast Kansas. Coffeyville’s present is as lively as its past with much industrial growth taking place over the past few years. The largest industrial development project ever in the State of Kansas took place at Coffeyville Resources, with the addition of the nitrogen fertilizer facility. John Deere Coffeyville Works; American Craftsman. Acme Foundry, Coffeyville SEKTAM, Morrow Foundry, Jensen International, and Bartlett Milling are some of the industries located in town. Additionally, Coffeyville has foundries, pattern shops, distributors and a variety of retail establishments.
Education is a priority in Coffeyville, and we are proud of Coffeyville Community College and Area Technical School that is nationally recognized for both academics and athletics. USD 445 operates the elementary school, a middle school and a high school, and Holy Name Catholic School has classes for kindergarten through sixth graders. In 2004, Community Elementary, a pre-kindergarten through sixth grade elementary school opened at Fourth and Cline. This is the largest elementary school in the state of Kansas. Holy Name School recently completed an addition to their facility as well.
Coffeyville offers a wide variety of sports and outdoor activities. Coffeyville Recreation Commission sponsors a variety of youth and adult sports programs. There are two 18-hole golf courses; ten neighborhood parks that include picnic areas, playground equipment, baseball and softball fields, and walking trails; Veterans Memorial Stadium is home to the Field Kindley High School Golden Tornado and Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens. The stadium features a fieldturf playing surface and NCAA sanctioned track. The Aquatic Center includes children’s play features, two water slides, a zero depth entry pool, lap pool with eight competition lanes, diving boards, concession area and a party room. Walter Johnson Park is the site of one of the area’s largest annual events, the Inter-State Fair and Rodeo, held in August. Southeast Kansas is a premier area for hunting and fishing enthusiasts.
Excellent health care is provided at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, a certified cancer facility and staffed by professional physicians, both active and consulting. CRMC recently completed a $16,000,000 expansion project that includes major renovation of their existing facility.
