Founded in 1868, Fredonia is the seat of Wilson County.  Located in southeast Kansas, Fredonia is rich in history and traditions, like the Gold Dust Days in May and the Homecoming Festival in October that brings thousands to the City’s square.  Fredonia has great city parks, and the area has many opportunities for outdoor sporting, such as Fall River and Toronto Lake.  The community is family oriented with a good school system, hospital and a variety of other services.  In addition to being a great place to live, Fredonia’s main entrance is at the junction of highways 400 and 47 making Fredonia a perfect spot for business and travelers in southeast Kansas.  Wichita is 90 miles west, Kansas City is 150 miles northeast and Tulsa is 115 miles south of Fredonia.

EMPLOYMENT AND BENEFITS:

Thank you for your interest in employment with the City of Fredonia, Kansas.  By submitting your application for a position with the City of Fredonia, you understand and agree to the following statements:

  • I certify that facts given in this application are true and complete to the best of my knowledge.  I hereby grant to the City of Fredonia permission to investigate any information included in the application and I agree to submit to medical examination and drug screening, if required.  I understand that this application is not a contract for employment.  I hereby release the City of Fredonia and its agents from all liability in making any investigation and inquiry relative to information contained in the application form.  I understand that, if employed, false or misleading statements given in this application or interview(s) may result in discharge.  If hired by the City, I understand that I am required to abide by all rules and regulations of the City of Fredonia.

  • City employment is voluntary and considered “at will.”  In other words, City employees are “employees at will,” meaning either they or the City may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or reason, and with or without advance notice.

  • Hiring Process - All applications for open jobs are reviewed by the City Administrator.  City Hall does not conduct interviews of applicants.  The hiring department may review all applications and will schedule and conduct the interviews.  If your application is chosen for further consideration you will be contacted by a representative of the hiring department to schedule an interview.  After the interviewing process, which may include more than one interview and testing to determine the skill level of the applicant, the hiring department will make a selection.  The hiring department will notify both the applicant and City Hall.  The applicant will be advised to report to City Hall to begin the hiring process.  The hiring process is not complete until the applicant successfully completes all the steps of the process.

  • To assist in providing a drug free workplace, the City of Fredonia has a mandatory drug screen program for job applicants who are offered employment.  If you are offered employment by a City department or department, you will be required to provide a urinalysis sample for drug screen purposes.  The screen will be to identify the presence of controlled or other prohibited substances.  Failure of the drug screen will result in denial of employment.  Additional information on this program may be obtained by submitting a written inquiry to: City Administrator, City of Fredonia, 314 North 7th Street, Fredonia, KS 66736.

  • Notification - If you are not contacted within 14 days of the closing date stated on the Job Announcement, you should assume your application was not selected for consideration at this time.  No notification will be made.  You may inquire on the status of your application by contacting City Hall (phone 620-378-2231) between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Quality of Applications - As your application provides the first, and perhaps only, impression of you as a potential employee, you need to ensure that you do a good job in completing it.  It is important that you provide accurate and complete information that is easy to read.  It is also important to provide a reliable phone number where you can be reached or a responsible person who can take a message for you.  Applications must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. of the closing date unless otherwise stated.  No late applications will be considered.
